The Babies Are Sick

Sep. 15, 2006 – The Babies are Sick

No schooling has taken place at our house yesterday or today.  Mary and Nathan are both sick- fevers, runny nose, achy…  They are sleeping a lot and if they are awake, they’re crying.  They’re crying so much that they are wearing themselves out and thus sleeping more.  For peace of mind, I’ve taken to letting them watch Disney’s animated version of Robin  Hood over and over and over again.  It’s the only time they are awake and not crying at the same time.  Truely, they are some pitiful little children today.

First Day of School

Sep. 13, 2006 – 913/2006: First Day of School

We started our preschool today.  The “Before Five in a Row” (BFIAR) curriculum that I ordered has not arrived yet but we did start our schooling shedule.

For our daily activity we played with play-dough and looked at our viewmaster reels of jungle, rainforest and ocean animals.  We read aloud from “The Children’s Book of Virtues” as well as a new Thomas the Train book of verses and rhymes.   We also played with our pegboards, got out the story reader and listened to “Noah’s Ark” and built some towers with blocks.  Mary completed a six piece puzzle on her own this afternoon without any help or direction from me.   Later, just for fun, we made rice krispy treats.  :)

I started carpet training them today.  A few weeks ago I purchased two carpet squares at Bed, Bath and Beyond.  Each child sits on their carpet and plays with whatever toys are provided for them.  They are to play quietly and are not allowed up from the carpet square until I tell them they are all done.  Mary got the concept right away, Nathan needed a little… ahhh, *help* to remember.  I think it is good for them to learn to sit quietly and entertain themselves.  Eventually, I’d like to move towards having them stay in church with us instead of attending Sunday School and this is the first step in that direction.    While they were on the carpet squares today, I did our read-alouds from the Children’s Book of Virtues and the Thomas the Train book of verses and rhymes.  I gave Nathan a colors and shapes peg board to play with while I read but Mary just sat quietly on her carpet square and listened to me read.  I thought it was pretty successful for the first time.

We’ve also got to start potty-training Mary.  Nathan needs to be trained to “put your hands in your lap” like we’ve done with Mary.  I suppose we can’t get it all done at once.

I’ve posted below are Daily Schedule for those who are interested.  Wherever you see “Preschool Time: Activity and Read Aloud”, you need to refer to the second chart on the bottom to see what is scheduled for that day.  Also the same for the tabletime activities.  For some reason, when I copied and pasted these onto this page, the fonts and spacing messed up a little… But, you’ll still get the general idea of what we’re doing even if it doesn’t look perfect.
