Another Nathan Funny

We have a DVD player in our van with two screens- one for the middle row of seats & one for the back row of seats.   The one in the back row hangs in front of Savannah’s seat and she is constantly fiddling with the cord with her feet.   Of course, the cord was broken and until we get a new one that screen will not work.   Last night we got into the car to head out for an early dinner before church and Savvy started in fussing about how she can’t see the screen in the middle because Nathan’s head is in the way.   I turned around and gave her the adult lecture- “We told you to leave the cord alone or it would break.   You kept messing with it and now it’s broken so you’ll just have to deal with it.   Nathan can’t move, he’s in his booster seat with a seat belt on.   Next time you’ll learn to leave the cord alone!” (or something like that).   Nathan pipes up with this:  “Mom, you know what that’s called, don’t you?  It’s called “paying the stupid tax!”

ohmyword, I haven’t stopped laughing about that since last night!

As an aside- we very nearly lost Lrya’s bibi- the crocheted blanket that my Aunt Carolyn made her.   Last night we decided to go out to dinner before church.  We went to one restaurant and it was closed, we went to a second restaurant but  my sister called & said it was no good so we ended up going to Chili’s.   Afterwards we noticed Lyra’s blanket was missing.  After much searching in the restaurant, parking lot, van, etc. we started back tracking.   We finally found it back at the first restaurant we stopped at- it had fallen out of the van doors when I opened them.   Some kind soul found it and hung it up on railing.  Crises averted!   I was planning on calling my Aunt and begging her to make me another ASAP.   Lyra is quite attached to it and she would have been heartbroken if it had been lost.    We missed church, which was disappointing, but at least we got her bibi back!

Lyra & Mr. Hicks

Lyra’s love affair with our piano teacher, Mr. Hicks, continues…

10/24- As usual, Mr. Hicks ate dinner with us after lessons.  Nothing would do but for Lyra to sit in his lap at dinner.   She didn’t want to get down and he wouldn’t hear of me making her get down.

10/27-  Could she be ANY cuter??? I think not!

Just look at her- isn’t she beautiful??   We just love our squishy little baby!

This picture is so sweet that it needed its own post.

Where I’ve been…

I’ve been having major problems with my macbook for the past few weeks & we’ve been on vacation.  I’m hoping to get my computer fixed by the end of this week so that I can start posting again.  I’ve got lots of fun pictures of apple picking, our vacation, etc.

ALSO: as a note to myself- Lyra started to answer questions and follow simple directions this week while we were at Williamsburg.    She will (sometimes) answer simple questions with “yes”- as in “Lyra, do you want more spaghetti?” with “YES!”.    And several times recently I’ve asked her to close a door or put a dish away in the drawer and she did as she was asked.  Roo is getting so big!  She turned 18 months old while we were in Williamsburg.   We sure do enjoy her!

Look Who Is……..

August 16, 2011-  Lyra started walking!

Finally!  At 16 months old, Lyra started walking!    Although she is my second latest walker, she is definitely my fastest walker.   The other kids went slowly from crawling to walking, with a lot of slow toddling in between.   Lyra went to bed on Thurs. 8/15 still crawling 95% of the time.  She took a few random steps here and there but was by no means walking.   She woke up on Fri. 8/16 and was walking everywhere!   In one day she went from not walking 95% of the time to walking 95% of the time.  She also started climbing on all the furniture and climbing the ladder in the girls room to the top bunk.     She has to be watched  like a hawk and I can’t get a single thing done when she’s awake unless I’ve got her gated in the living room.   Thank goodness she still naps twice a day!

PSA: Bad Guys Stay Away!

Public Service Announcement

If you are a bad guy who plans on kidnapping our baby, Beware!  Nathan spent 10 minutes this morning telling me his very detailed & aggressive plan for defending Lyra against such a kidnapping.  He has a plan & is looking for an opportunity to use it!

Nathan Loves Lyra

Nathan, holding Lyra in his lap and singing her a little “I love you” song, says “Mom, I’m lovestruck with Lyra!” Do you think any boy will ever stand a chance with her in 20 years or so? haha.  (7/22/2011)

Training

7/2/2011- Blanket training with Lyra.  We are also working on teaching her to sit for church.   She did pretty well for her first time.
