Kid Funnies

Fun & Sweet Kid Stuff

1. Savvy came downstairs at 11pm last night complaining that she had “itchy biscuits”.    Kip and I rock-paper-scissored who was going to deal with this lovely issue.  He lost. :D    After a few minutes in the bathroom, they came out and Kip was laughing so hard he couldn’t stop.    Earlier in the day the children had gotten into several bottles of glitter that I bought at Dollar Tree.   Poured them all over the outdoor fort, in their hair, etc.   I really did not care- small potatoes as far as I am concerned.    But apparently the top of her head is not the only place the glitter landed.   Kip said her entire biscuit area was completely encased in glitter.    As in, you could hardly see the skin through all the glitter.   Good gracious.  Even after a thorough scrubbing in the bathtub this morning, the glitter is still stuck to her!  I have a feeling we’ll be finding glitter for quite a while.

2. Nathan came to me on Monday and said “Mom, if we could have another baby girl, I have THE PERFECT name picked out for her!”   me: what is it?    Nathan: “Mom, we should name her Charlotte Anne!  Isn’t that a beautiful name?!?!”    so sweet!  And I do love the name Charlotte!   (and no I am not pregnant for anyone who is wondering!)

3. Whenever the kids have their annual physicals I try to take just that child and we do some fun things.  This morning was Nathan’s physical.   We stopped at the toy store to order Mary’s birthday present and Nathan had a chance to play for a little while.  Then on to his appointment and out to lunch at Panera afterwards.  He brought his entire stash of coins and insisted on buying desert for me & him (which I would have bought).  It was very sweet.   He felt like a little man going up to the cash registering and paying for it himself.

4. Mary is the crafting QUEEN lately.   She is working on her potholders constantly.   She is working on knitting a baby hat with her knifty knitter loom.  And drawing, painting, etc.  I just love it.   She is such a treasure.  She doesn’t know it but for her birthday we are getting her a table top loom.    She fell in love with weaving at the High Point Historical Museum this summer and looks at looms longingly now whenever we run across them.   I hope she’ll love it.

5. Lyra is really enjoying her outside time.  Kip spent an entire weekend cleaning up our fenced in backyard and making it toddler ready.   Mary & Nathan have been taking turns with her out in the backyard.   She loves the slide & swings the most and it is wearing her out for naptime.   :)

7. (lunch time today, 1/12/12)  Mary just asked me (about cuties- those little clementines) “Mom, did you buy teenager cuties?” Me: (wondering what in the world she is talking about) No, I just bought regular Cuties, why? Mary: Because our Cuties are a lot bigger than the small ones we usually have. (Maybe she thinks Cuties are like baby oranges??? Hence the bigger than usual size equaled “teenage” cuties???)

I had a bad dream…

12/6/11

Savannah came into our room this morning with this little gem:  “I had a bad dream last night.  There was a monster in the woods.  He ate some bad medicine and turned into a chicken nugget!”   haha- kids are so great!  :D

Another Nathan Funny

We have a DVD player in our van with two screens- one for the middle row of seats & one for the back row of seats.   The one in the back row hangs in front of Savannah’s seat and she is constantly fiddling with the cord with her feet.   Of course, the cord was broken and until we get a new one that screen will not work.   Last night we got into the car to head out for an early dinner before church and Savvy started in fussing about how she can’t see the screen in the middle because Nathan’s head is in the way.   I turned around and gave her the adult lecture- “We told you to leave the cord alone or it would break.   You kept messing with it and now it’s broken so you’ll just have to deal with it.   Nathan can’t move, he’s in his booster seat with a seat belt on.   Next time you’ll learn to leave the cord alone!” (or something like that).   Nathan pipes up with this:  “Mom, you know what that’s called, don’t you?  It’s called “paying the stupid tax!”

ohmyword, I haven’t stopped laughing about that since last night!

As an aside- we very nearly lost Lrya’s bibi- the crocheted blanket that my Aunt Carolyn made her.   Last night we decided to go out to dinner before church.  We went to one restaurant and it was closed, we went to a second restaurant but  my sister called & said it was no good so we ended up going to Chili’s.   Afterwards we noticed Lyra’s blanket was missing.  After much searching in the restaurant, parking lot, van, etc. we started back tracking.   We finally found it back at the first restaurant we stopped at- it had fallen out of the van doors when I opened them.   Some kind soul found it and hung it up on railing.  Crises averted!   I was planning on calling my Aunt and begging her to make me another ASAP.   Lyra is quite attached to it and she would have been heartbroken if it had been lost.    We missed church, which was disappointing, but at least we got her bibi back!

Nathan’s Funny

We had a wonderful time at my sister’s lovely wedding.    Nathan was seated in the row in front of me and at one point during the ceremony he tipped his head back, looking up at the sky and quietly whispered, with a note of desperation in his voice…  “SO.MUCH.TALKING”.   That was all he said but I thought it was so funny- that is a wedding from a 6yo boys point-of-view.

PSA: Bad Guys Stay Away!

Public Service Announcement

If you are a bad guy who plans on kidnapping our baby, Beware!  Nathan spent 10 minutes this morning telling me his very detailed & aggressive plan for defending Lyra against such a kidnapping.  He has a plan & is looking for an opportunity to use it!

Nathan Loves Lyra

Nathan, holding Lyra in his lap and singing her a little “I love you” song, says “Mom, I’m lovestruck with Lyra!” Do you think any boy will ever stand a chance with her in 20 years or so? haha.  (7/22/2011)

The Three Greatest Words…

Nathan (6 years old): “Mom, the three greatest words on the planet are God, Jesus and Marines!”.

Sunday, 4/24/2011
We’ve been studying The Boston Tea Party- reading about it, watching a Liberty’s Kids video on it, etc. While Kip & I were inside and the little girls were napping, Mary & Nathan grabbed a Sharpie Marker & decided that they were going to “put on a show” (act out) about The Boston Tea Party. They made themselves into “Mohawks” like the colonists did… Good Heavens. And on Easter Sunday, 90 minutes before we’re supposed to leave for evening church- what a mess!

Funny Kid Stuff

Nathan:  “Mom, why is broken ice in the ocean called iceburn? Does it burn? I think it is spicy on your feet!”

Aren’t 6 year olds great?!!?!
