BABY DAY!

Tomorrow is baby day and we are SO, SO excited to FINALLY see our sweet girl!

Up Late

Every once in a while, we’ll let one or two of the kids come down and spend  an evening with us.    Nathan stayed up late with us a couple of weeks ago.    The other night the girls were still wide awake at 10pm so we let them come down for a while.

Baby Shower!

SURPRISE!!

Two Sudays ago, (3/7/2010),  my friend Regina invited me to a Thirty One Purse Party at her house.  I was planning on going until my Mom said she was going to come up for a visit that day so I called Regina the night before to say that I wouldn’t be coming after all.   My Mother was coming for a visit, we were going to do a little furniture shopping, etc.   Regina laid the guilt on pretty thick- I ended up feeling bad & calling my mother to see if she would mind going to the party with me.    Little did I know…

The Purse Party was actually a SURPRISE baby shower!    Regina, along with two other friends- Terri & Barbara, had been planning this for two months!   They raided my Facebook friends list and called Kip to get access to my address book.    One of my best friends from highschool, Kelly (Wood) Grey came from Concord and so did my Aunt Karen & cousin Kristin and my cousin Amy.   Mom was there, of couse, as well as bunch of local friends.  Even Mimi (Kip’s Dad’s wife) came!   I really could not have been more surprised- no one expects a baby shower when it’s your 4th baby and 3rd girl!

Regina, Terri and Barbara really outdid themselves.   The invitations and decorations were gorgeous.   Regina made a beautiful cake and Barbara’s daughter made a large diaper cake as a centerpiece.     I didn’t have my camera with me (why would I, to go to a purse party?) so all I have are these pictures of the gifts after I got home.

Truly, it was one of the nicest things anyone has done for me in a long, long time.   EVERYONE was in on it and knew about- Kip, my Mom, my friends- and no one let it slip.  I was impressed by their sneakiness.  :)     It was such a beautiful party and I was so blessed by the generosity of my friends.

Baby blanket made by Aunt Karen- I love the colors!

Absolutely stunning quilt made by my friend Susanna!    Susanna and I belong to the same pool and spent much time there last summer with all our kids- she said that she made me the quilt so I would have something to lay down on the ground for the baby this summer.    If she thinks I am putting this gorgeous quilt on the concrete pool deck she is CRAZY!   I told her she doesn’t value her work enough- it’s way to beautiful to be on the ground!

Beautiful, soft, plush & silk blanket with Lyra’s monogram from Regina.

GIFT LIST:  (for my own memory as much as anything else!)

Regina Wayne:  Large gift basket with Mom & baby bath products, meds, etc.   Light green plush & silk blanket with Lyra’s monogram.

Terri Hoyle: Monogrammed burp cloths and banner with Lyra’s name.   Also, Terri had quilt squares there that she had everyone write a message or scripture on.  She is going to assemble it into a quilt for Lyra- I can’t wait to see it!

Barbara Clapp- Baby book and Diaper bag.

Michelle Beard- “God’s Child” onsie, bracelet and stuffed puppy.

Susanna Lanier- “Fun in the Sun” quilt

Donna Plaster- Pink Bunny Rabbit One piece outfit and wipes

Kelly Grey- Large case of diapers

Allison Marth- Diaper cake

Kristin Jaramillo- 2 purple dresses

Karen Johnston- Pink and yellow knitted/crocheted baby blanket

Amy Ek- Dress and set of socks that look like booties

Carolyn Jewell- Infant Carrier

Mom- $100 Visa Gift Card (bringing a wrapped present would have tipped me off that something was up!)

Sarah Roseberry- $40 Gift Card (she had to work that day but gave it to me in a card)

Other Baby Gifts:

I wanted to remember that Christie Driscoll sent me a monogrammed bib and burp cloth set as well!

Jeannie Hodges (our wonderful realtor who helped us sell our previous home and buy this one) made Lyra a beautiful, all white and silvery knitted/crocheted baby blanket.

Aunt Carolyn Feller sent a beautiful knitted/crocheted baby blanket with matching sweater.

Funny Kids: 3/14/2010

We couldn’t make this stuff up if we tried…

Mary took her stuffed horse and a corn-on-the-cob holder and made herself a unicorn.   She didn’t even realize the play on words.   Kids are funny.

Nathan’s Question This Morning:

Nathan:  “Mom, you know the bark on trees?    How does it get there?  From dogs barking?”

Painting

While Nathan was working with Daddy, I let the girls get out their paints and go to town.   Savvy really enjoyed it this time around, except at the end where she got paint on her arm and we all know how that girl feels about getting dirty.  :)     Mary has a bad case of chapped lips, so ignore the shinyness in these pictures- she’s been slathered with Vaseline to help heal.

2/25/2010 (Yes, I know I am a few weeks behind on posting these pictures.  I am determined to be caught up before Lyra gets here!)

Mary, working on one of the craft kits she got for her birthday.

Savvy, discovering the paint on her arm.    Oh, the horror!

Busy Times

ONLY 10 DAYS TO GO!

I know I just complained about how the pregnancy initially flew by but was now dragging these last few weeks… however, these last two weeks or so have been jam packed busy and I’m so thankful for the distraction!

Mondays- I have my first of a twice weekly Non Stress Test appointment at the OB’s office.    I take all three kids with me for my “non-stress” test.  :)    Mary then has Tae Kwon Do.

Tuesdays- The big kids have piano lessons and Savvy’s Speech Therapist comes for her weekly session.

Wednesdays- Tae Kwon Do

Thursdays- 2nd weekly Non-Stress Test followed by an appointment/exam with the OB.   Barbie is at home with the kids so if I have time, I try to run some errands.

Friday- currently our only day off.

In addition to the above, Kip & I have been battling an absolutely awful head cold for two weeks.   So I’ve had an appt. with our family doctor as well and in general have not been feeling well because I can’t take much medication.   We’ve had company here to visit.  :)   I’ve been thrown a wonderful SURPRISE baby shower (pictures coming soon!) and Mary’s been sick on and off for weeks.

Baby Stuff Still To Do: Install infant carrier and buy new stems for my Dr. Brown’s bottles- no clue where mine went but they won’t work well without them so I need to get back to Babies R’  Us to buy some.   Would really like to order a knit infant hat or two.   Must get some additional meals/bread/etc. in freezer- way behind on this one.

3/5/2010: When Kip & I went upstairs to go to bed, we found that someone had snuck into our bed, curled up & fallen asleep.    Isn’t she precious?

Mary Madison, 6 years old.

School Day Pictures

A few pictures from some recent school days…

Can anyone guess what we’ve been studying for science this past month?

:D    Nathan, in particular, is utterly fascinated by the human body, veins, arteries, blood, bones, etc.

Mary, working on her geography puzzle of the United States & Canada.

Savvy, very diligently trying  to work the big kids addition puzzle.  (she’s a little young for it though! )

Nathan working on a 4 layer puzzle that covers the seasons- each layer is a picture of the same scene in a different season.

All three kids have been thoroughly obsessed with the poet Shel Silverstein- we’ve read from this book every day for the last 3 weeks!  Here are a few of our favorites:

Woulda Coulda Shoulda

All the Woulda-Coulda-Shouldas

Layin’ in the sun,

Talkin’ bout the things

They woulda-coulda-shoulda done…

But those Woulda-Coulda-Shouldas

All ran away and hid

From one little did.

The Folks Inside

Inside you, boy,
There’s an old man sleepin’,
Dreamin’ waitin’ for his chance.
Inside you, girl,
There’s an old lady dozin’,
Wantin’ to show you a slower dance.

So keep on playin’,
Keep on runnin’,
Keep on jumpin’, til the day
That those old folks
Down inside you
Wake up … and come out and play.

The Toy Eater

You don’t have to pick up your toys, okay?
You can leave ‘em right there on the floor,
So tonight when the Terrible Toy-Eatin’ Tookle
Comes tiptoeing’ in through the crack in the door,
He’ll crunch all your soldiers, he’ll munch on your trucks,
He’ll chew your poor puppets to shreds,
He’ll swallow your Big Wheel and slurp up your paints
And bite off your dear dollies’ heads.
Then he’ll wipe off his lips with the sails of your ship,
And making a bur pity noise,
He’ll slither away– but hey, that’s okay,
You don’t have to pick up your toys.

Mary with her phonics book.

Savvy, engrossed in some books.
