Look What I Made!
Okay, I am so not crafty or talented like others- I can’t sew aprons like somebody I know can. I don’t have my own Etsy shop selling all sorts of fabulous things like somebody else I know. So you can understand why I’m pleased whenever I do manage to make something, anything….
Even though I’m not crafty, what I am, is efficient. And inefficiancy bugs me. Really bugs me. I just haven’t been able to find a plan book for homeschooling that I liked. One that worked perfectly- with the right size boxes to write in and a weekly checklist a la Motivated Moms. What to do??? I decided to make my own.
I am SO pleased with how it came out!
The cover- I used my three favorite pictures from last year.
The inside page- this is how I keep attendance. I circle each day that we do school. At the end of each month I tally up the number of days we’ve done school that month and then write that with a dash and the total number of days we’ve done for the school year underneath. So if we did 18 days of school in January and then in February we did 20 days of school- at the bottom of the February calendar I’d have written 20/38.
The rest of the book looks like this. The far left column is my “weekly checklist”- I’ve decided how many days a week I want to spend on each subject. Some are daily- Bible, Language Arts, Math, PE. Some I’ll cover 3 days a week- History, Science, Handwriting and some once a week- Art, Music, Geography. Below each subject is a corresponding number of boxes- for example, 5 for Math, 3 for History, etc. I simply check those off as I accomplish them.
The remaining 5 columns of large boxes are where I write down what we do each day. Each column covers one day. The date goes at the top. Most subjects are shared by Mary and Nathan- PE, Bible, Math, Science, History, etc. The only subjects they are covering separately are Language Arts and Handwriting. Those boxes have separate areas for Mary and Nathan. I DO NOT plan ahead, I only write down what we do each day after we have done it. We are never behind. ![]()
TOTAL COST: $4.57 New planners at the Education Store range from $9-$20, so I thought this was quite the deal. Kip printed out the pages at work for me and then I took them to staples and had it bound with red binding, a sturdy back put on and a clear front cover.

Thank you so much for sharing about your planner on RGT! It has inspired me to create my own that is similar to yours and yet just as simple for me.
